Finished size 5 3/4” wide x 20” long not including hanger. This stocking is designed to hang facing either direction.

Materials:
196 Yards weight
4 (medium) yarn
H/8.5 MM Crochet Hook or hook recommended on your skein of yarn

**Gauge guide is not provided because for this beginner pattern I don’t feel it important. If you use a crochet hook larger or smaller than what I’ve listed the finished size of the stocking will be slightly different than what I have noted.
Stitch Abbreviations:
CH-chain SLST- slip stitch
SC-single crochet
HDC-half double crochet
DC-double crochet
FPDC-front post double crochet
BPDC-back post double crochet
Number in parenthesis is the stitch count for each row ** For the purpose of this pattern your turning chain does not count as a stitch**
Toe:
CH 4, join into first CH using SLST
CH 3, put 12 DC inside the round, join using a SLST into the top of your CH 3 (12) CH 3, put 2 DC into each stitch of the previous round, join using a SLST into the top of your CH 3 (24)
CH 3, put 1 DC in the first stitch, put 2 DC in the second stitch. Keep alternating 1 DC then 2 DC into the stitches in the row, join using a SLST into the top of your CH 3 (36)
CH3, put 1 DC in each St of the previous round, join using a SLST into the top of your CH 3 (36)
Body: You will have 36 working stitches for the body of the stocking. Below Heel

HEEL: After you J round 16 SLST 8 ST’s to the left from the join. Turn your work, CH2 (counts as the first HDC ST) work 4 HDC ST’s, 8 DC ST’s, 4 HDC ST’s CH 2 T, for each row. Do this for a total of 4 rows. Use the chart to keep track of your rows. SLST into the body where you placed the first HDC ST. CH2. Work round 17 of the pattern repeat. When you reach the first HDC on the other side of the heel fold the heal in half and work the top St on the last HDC on that side of the heel into the ST on the body.
Above Heel:

44. Place 2 DC in the first ST, SK 2 ST’s, work 3 DC in the next ST, SK 2 ST’s 3 DC in the next ST, repeat the 3 DC, SK2 ST’s for the round. J CH3.
45. SK first 2 ST’s, work 3 DC in the next ST, SK 2 ST’s 3 DC in the next ST, repeat the 3 DC, SK2 ST’s until the last ST. Work 2 DC in that ST, J at the top of the CH3. Cut working yarn, leaving an 6”-8” tail to sew in.
Hanger: CH 25. HDC back into the CH, continue to HDC down the chain until you reach the last ST. Cut working yarn leaving 10”. Fold hanger in half length wise and sew into the body at the center back of round 43. Stitchback and forth through the body and both thicknesses of the hanger a few times. Knot your yarn and weave in the end. Center back is where your stocking is evenly laid out looking down at it.
Finish: Pull your completed stocking inside out and weave in all your loose ends. Flip the stocking right side out and pull the heel and seams straight. Congratulations! You just completed your first stocking.
